Research Summary

Scope of project was preparing silica sols by acid/base two-step catalyzed sol-gel method, coating the silica thin film on glass substrates using spin-coater, surface modification using trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS) at different silylation temperatures. The water contact angle, surface energy, surface roughness, optical transmission, and band gap, structural characteristic, surface morphology and element composition of the as-prepared silica thin film and modified silica thin films were evaluated by measuring the static water contact angle (θ) using the contact angle meter equipped with hi-scope microscope system, Young’s equation to calculate the surface energy, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, IR Spectroscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Analyzer (EDAX).
