STRUCTURED EARLY INDUSTRIAL EXPOSURE PROGRAM (SEIEP) EXPERIENCES-
AT FOREST RESEARCH INSTITUTE MALAYSIA (FRIM)- 2017
INTAN ACMAL BINTI A.HAMID (SA15016)
I am really grateful that I am given the opportunities to follow this Structured Early Industrial Exposure Program organized by Faculty of Industrial Science & Technology, University Malaysia Pahang. Through SEIEP I have gained many new knowledge and exposure that will help me for my future. This program makes me more confident of myself in facing the industry. At first, I found it was difficult to adapt to the surrounding compared to other students having compulsory internship in their final year. I assumed they are much more prepared as have had more knowledge and experiences to conduct the project given. However, my family, friends, supervisor at FRIM and FIST always gave ample of moral support. My supervisor at FRIM, Dr. Rafeadah binti Rusli always provided guidance to me in completing successfully this SEIE program from 3rd July 2017 to 29th August 2017 under Keluaran Hutan, FRIM.
I worked in Formaldehyde Laboratories under the Biocomposite section. The formaldehyde laboratories conducted several testing to ensure that the formaldehyde content levels inside the wood is under the accepted range before it can be exported out of Malaysia. The countries exported included Japan done using the desiccator method while Britain with the use of perforator method under the required standards. The testing method help me to correct and improve the skill in conducting the experiment by using correct measurements using the pippete, UV VIS instrument as well as in relating to the previously learned techniques. I am also given opportunities and confidences to help other intern students to complete their internship projects. Hence, I can also observe other testing such as tensile stress, bending and internal bonding of wood for different composition of wood. My supervisor gave me the freedom and opportunities to gain many new experiences other than formaldehyde and mechanical testing. I had learnt to also produce fiber from polymer using electrospinning instrument.
Last but not least, I want to give my gratitude to FIST, UMP on a whole and specifically to my supervisors at FRIM and FIST. Also to all those helped me to completed this SEIE program. I hope that more student will involve in this program as many benefit can be obtained due to the SEIE program.
