SILVER MEDAL IN OLYMPIAD NANOTECHNOLOGY MALAYSIA (ONM) NATIONAL COMPETITION 2018
Malaysia Nanotechnology Olympiad (ONM) Competition at National level was organized by National Nanotechnology Centre (NNC), Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC) Malaysia for public and private university students from Bachelor Degree to PhD degree on 22nd to 26th October 2018 at MIMOS Berhad. The objective is focusing on enhancing students’ motivation to explore and acquire knowledge on nanotechnology as well as acquire skills to solve problems and challenges faced by the industry. The preliminary round screening test for ONM 2018 from 30th September till 10th October 2018 had shortlisted 30 best candidates out of 210 participants for the final round Nano Camp ONM 2018. The one and only PhD candidate namely Nur Farha binti Shaafi under supervision of Dr. Saifful Kamaluddin bin Muzakir @ Lokman, from Faculty of Industrial Sciences & Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang has been shortlisted for the final round of ONM 2018 competition. A total of 30 students who earn the highest score in the screening exam were listed from UKM, UM, UPM, UTP, UTM, USM, UTHM and UMP. They were offered a place for the NanoCamp Workshop on the ONM 2018 competition from 22th to 26th October 2018 at MIMOS, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.
The NanoCamp Workshop was the final round of the ONM 2018 competition. The selected 30 participants was divided into 6 groups. Each of the group was required to solve problem through the preparation and presentation of research proposals using nanotechnology based on the inputs obtained based on the theme set out entitled “Nanotechnology Applications for Green Transportations”. The most challenging task given during the NanoCamp was Mix Team Challenge due to randomly new forming groups which acquires them to innovate a nanotechnology for reducing air pollution faced by the nation within 4 hours before presentation session. The viva presentation for ONM competition was held on 26th October 2018 and judged by 10 invited panels from various universities. The panels were including Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Shaari (UPM), Prof. Dr. Md. Rahim Sahar (UTM), Prof. Dr Suzana Yusup (UTP), Prof. Madya Dr. Khaulah Sulaiman (UM), Prof. Madya Dr. Khamirul Amin Matori (UPM), Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Hafiz Dzarfan Othman (UTM), Prof. Madya Dr. Nafisah Osman (UiTM), Dr. Iskandar Shahrim Mustafa (USM), Dr. Mahendra Rao Somalu (UKM) and Dr. Abd. Mutalib Md Jani (UiTM).
The Medal Presentation Ceremony to all participants of the Nanocamp Workshop in the ONM 2018 competition will be held on 26th October 2018. The top three winners for ONM National Competition 2018 were awarded to Nadiah Ghazali (UM), Andrew Ng Kay Lup (UM) and Alif Syafiq Kamarol Zaman (UPM). Meanwhile, the UMP participant, Nur Farha binti Shaafi achieved silver medal award. All the participants of ONM National Competition 2018 were awarded with token of appreciation and certificates.
