INSTITUTIONAL ANIMAL CARE AND USE COMMITTEE (IACUC) OF UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA PAHANG (UMP)
PREFACE
IACUC OF UMP been established with the growing demand to perform research involving experimental animal. The use of experimental animal still considered relevant despite recent awareness on the ethical issues. UMP recognizes the utilizing of experimental animal with care and responsibility as guided by existing procedures in place at international level. The minimum pre-requisites are in place to allow researchers conduct experiments involving animals in the most ethical manner recommended. In line with the demand in utilizing experimental animal by researchers of UMP a constant upgrading shall be done appropriately.

ANIMAL ETHICS APPLICATION PROCEDURES
In the current set up an animal holding laboratory already operational and situated in the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FIST). The laboratory is able to house small rodents i.e. mice (BALB/c or ICR species) and rats (Sprague Dawley or Kyoto Wistar species). Due its limitation researchers are restricted for now in the use of animal type as well. All researchers intending to perform any animal studies required to first obtain approval from IACUC. Upon approval an animal ethics certification will be provided to conduct experimentation to a specified duration. The researcher is expected to be responsible in adhering to all the norms of animal ethics guidelines and in the event of any untoward incidence suspected a responsible counter measures to be enforced immediately for the healthy ethics of animal welfare.
APPLICATION FLOWCHART
The flowchart is an overview on the review process utilized by the IACUC of UMP. Researchers are advised to apply at the earliest convenient possibility to avoid delay in approval due to lengthy and necessary procedures indicated in the flowchart. In instances deemed important researcher will be required to be present personally in the meeting with the IACUC committee to clarify or defend their animal ethics application.
