UPM-Shizuoka University Minisymposium
The UPM-Shizuoka University Minisymposium were successfully held on 22 nd January 2018.
We were honoured to have six Japanese visitors (one Assistant Professor, one phD student
and 4 master students) to join us for UMP-Shizuoka University Minisymposium. There was a
good turn out of UMP staff and students. The symposium was officiated by the Dean of
Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Hasbi Ab.
Rahim. A total of nine presentations on research were delivered. The presentations covered
a diverse topic which including viruses and immunity, microbial fuel cells, membrane
vesicle, microbial ecology, natural product for oral care and cold-adapted enzymes from
antarctic yeast. We had a great discussion on our research. It was very encouraging to see
everyone engaged very well during Q&A, including students from UMP. The symposium was
a good platform to exchange ideas and get exposure with international researchers. Our
relationship with Shizuoka University doesn’t end here but we have more ideas to
collaborate in research and also academically.
