The Birth of Mathematics Olympian by the Mathematics Olympiad Team from FIST, Universiti Malaysia Pahang

National Mathematics Olympiad or better known as Olimpiad Matematik Kebangsaan (OMK) is a well-known mathematics school competition which tests students analytical and problem-solving skills in mathematics. The competition is held annually by the Malaysian Mathematical Sciences Society, Persatuan Sains Matematik Malaysia (PERSAMA). The selected students from the screening phase will represent Malaysia for the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). Besides IMO, Malaysia also organized several mathematics competitions which includes, MRSM Mathematics Olympiad, Kangaroo Math Competition and Beaver Computational Thinking Competition. All of these competition stems from the fundamental knowledge of mathematics which supports the pillar of the National STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) movement.

The Science program under the Faculty of Sciences & Technology Industry (FIST) is committed to supports this motion since 2012 by giving training to the school students for their preparation for various mathematics Olympiad competition. The trainers involved in 2018 are the Mathematics lecturers led by Dr. Mohd Sham bin Mohamad, Dr. Adam Shariff bin Adli Aminuddin, Dr. Nor Aida Zuraimi binti Mohd Noar and Dr. Norhafizah binti Md Sariff.
