FIST to pursue the American Chemical Society (ACS) international recognition
15 March 2019 - Dr Wan Norfazilah Wan Ismail (Head of Industrial Chemistry Program) chaired a teleconference meeting between FIST and the American Chemical Society (ACS) from 8.00 pm to 9.30 pm (local time) to discuss on the faculty's initiatives to pursue ACS recognition. Two ACS representatives, Dr Jodi Wesemann and Dr Blake Aronson were interested to learn more about FIST interest in the ACS Approval and also on FIST’s Bachelor of Applied Science (Hons) Industrial Chemistry program.
The Industrial Chemistry team led by Assoc. Prof. Dr Hasbi Ab Rahim (Dean of FIST) explained that it is FIST’s aim to obtain international recognitions in order to ensure the good quality and standard of all its Undergraduate Academic Programs.
As a start, FIST will join the ACS global exchange program on the development of students’ safety skills and also the ACS International Student Chapters. The student chapters are a great way for students to develop leadership and teamwork skills. Several grants are available to be applied for organizing student development activities.
With regards to the outreach initiatives, ACS also supports the Chemistry Festival program specifically for the international community. The Festival Training Institute will help FIST in setting up the Chemistry Festival.
