Industrial visit to Hanson Heidelberg Cement Group Kuantan

 22 Apr 2019 – A total of 29 students of BSK3163 Inorganic Chemistry Process from the Faculty of Industrial Sciences & Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang, accompanied by the course lecturer (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gaanty Pragas Maniam) have visited the Hanson Heidelberg Cement Group Kuantan site. 

Arrived there by 9:00 am and after the Safety Briefing by Mr. Rosli and Company Introduction by Mr. Lau, the process of making concrete were demonstrated. The differences between cement and concrete were explained in detail to the students during the visit. A briefing on the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the possible hazard at the site was also delivered to the students. 

The students had the chance to witness the automation process control by visiting the Process Control Unit of the site. The visit was closed with the question and answer session with the personnel to further elaborate on the types of raw materials used in the process. 

Overall, the industry is satisfied with the students’ level of comprehension on the process. Students were suggested to engage more with the industry through the question and answer session which serves as a great opportunity for them to learn about the process as much as possible.
