Global classroom with OxBridge: Collaborative learning to engage students
In line with the Centre for Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) initiative to connect students and academics from different countries, two global classroom was conducted for the teaching and learning of BSB2193 Industrial Microbiology.
Global classroom is a cost-effective way to globalise the on-campus learning experience. Dr. Lee Chin Mei, the coordinator of the course invited the collaborators, Dr. Ysobel Baker (University of Oxford, UK) and Dr. Alex Quintero (University of Cambridge, UK) as the guest lecturers for the global classroom session on 10 April 2019 and 8 May 2019, respectively.
Students enjoyed learning some fun facts about British culture and the student life in the University of Cambridge and University of Oxford. After some fun time, Dr. Baker gave presentation on the advanced studies of synthetic oligonucleotides and some possible applications. In another session, Dr. Quintero shared his research on molecular microbiology. And finally, the class ended with a short question and answer session.
