Industrial visit@ Lynas
14 November 2019 - A total of 40 first year students with two accompanying lecturers (Dr Wan Norfazilah Wan Ismail and Dr Shamsul Zakaria) from Industrial Chemistry program have visited Lynas Malaysia Sdn Bhd in Gebeng, Kuantan to gain an early exposure to industry. Three representatives from Lynas have shared the information and their experience working in Lynas including Mr Azlan (Process Engineer), En Syazwan (Senior Chemist) and Pn Fatahiah (Senior Executive Radiation Safety). The students were given the information of competencies needed, career opportunities, safety requirements, compliance to international standards and equipment used in the laboratory.
The students were then guided by Mr Azlan for plant tour and explained about the mining, concentrate, solvent extraction and product finishing process. The students gained invaluable insight of how Lynas produces Rare Earth Oxide (REO) products and how it is designed to comply with the modern safety and environmental practices to support their aim of providing a sustainable supply chain of rare earths. Hopefully this visit will increase student's interest in the field of industrial chemistry and prepare themselves as early as possible to work in industry in the future.
