Industry Lecture with Dr. Luruthudass Annaniah (OSRAM Opto Semiconductor (M) Sdn. Bhd)
Dr. Luruthudass Annaniah is currently working as the Director, Research and Development, OSRAM Opto Semiconductor (M) Sdn. Bhd., Penang. He was born in Tapah, Perak DR, Malaysia. He received his Bachelor Engineering (Mechanical and Materials) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia during 1993. He has received Master of Business administration from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow during the Year 2000 and received his Doctor of Philosophy Degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia during 2018. He has worked as a management trainee in Samsung Electronics Sdn. Bhd., Development engineer in Siemens Opto Semiconductor (M) Sdn. Bhd, Engineering Manager in Deutsche Technoplast (M) Sdn. Bhd. He joined OSRAM Opto Semiconductor (M) Sdn. Bhd. In Dec. 2000 he joined OSRAM Opto Semiconductor (M) Sdn. Bhd. As Product Development Manager where he is the Director of R&D presently. He has filed/sealed several patents and published enormously in the area of semiconductor science & technology, especially on LED packing technologies. He is passionate to learn new knowledges on technology, language, psychology, business, finance
On Dec 18, 2020 he has offered a lecture to the Materials Technology students on solid state physics entitled “LED – Beyond Artificial Lighting”. He concentrated on three aspects (1) The Economy (Market need of LED technology), (2) The Science of LEDs (which detailed the principles and engineering involved in LEDs) and (3) The current and emerging applications of LEDs
The section was so interesting that generated a good discussion after the lecture. Dr. Das answered questions from the students ranged from career development from a solid-state physics perspective to the futuristic applications of solid-state lighting technologies. Dr. Das also given career guidance to the students after they become graduates where he emphasized clear understanding on the principles, critical thinking and life-long learning as key characteristics of an employable graduate.
